Abstract
A new model for explosive sensitivity has been applied to solid nitrom ethane. This model based on steric hindrance to shear flow gives a pla usible explanation for the explosive behavior reported when nitrometha ne crystals of certain orientations were subjected to rapid loading in the diamond-anvil, high-pressure cell.
