Ms. Siddiqui et al., NAVIER-STOKES COMPUTATIONS OF HEAT-TRANSFER FOR HIGH-SPEED FLOWS, International journal of computational fluid dynamics, 6(1), 1996, pp. 37-49
Navier-Stokes computations of heat transfer at high speeds have been a
source of considerable difficulty. Problems arise not only due to the
particular numerical scheme employed but also due to the resolution o
f the computational mesh. A comparative study of selected numerical sc
hemes is presented herein, with regards to their ability to accurately
predict the heating loads along the surface of the body. The grid dep
endency effects of these schemes are investigated. A parametric study
is carried out and it is shown that the grid resolution for the accura
te prediction of wall flux quantities is dependent on the free stream
Mach and Reynolds numbers. A correlation is developed, for the generic
class of blunt configurations studies herein, for predicting the grid
requirements based on the free stream Mach and Reynolds numbers.
