The configuration-interaction effects on the excitatian-autoionization
cross sections for the Na-like Cu ion from 1s(2)2s(2)2p(6)3s --> 1s(2
)2s(2)2p(5)3s3l (l = 0, 1, 2) transitions were investigated in some de
tail. The excitation cross sections were calculated using the distorte
d-wave Born exchange approximation (DWBE) and configuration-interactio
n, bound-state wavefunctions. The autoionizing branching ratios were c
alculated without and with configuration interaction. The calculated r
esults indicated that, the configuration interaction can increase the
excitation-autoionization cross sections for the 2p(6)3s --> 2p(5)3s3d
transition by about a factor of two, and reduce the autoionization cr
oss sections for 2p(6)3s --> 2p(5)3s(2) by about 35% but only has a sl
ight effect on the autoionization cross sections for the 2p(6)3s --> 2
p(5)3s3p transition. In addition, the autoionization cross sections ma
ke a substantial contribution to the total electron-impact ionization
cross sections, it is about a factor of four of the direct ionization
cross sections.
