Iodine deficiency, goiter, and hyperthyroidism have been reported in p
atients with Crohn's disease. Growth retardation in the course of Croh
n's disease is generally ascribed to nutritional deficiencies, cortico
steroid therapy, and decreased somatomedin levels. A case of primary h
ypothyroidism with goiter and growth retardation in a ten-year-old wit
h Crohn's disease is reported. Growth returned to normal after initiat
ion of thyroid hormone replacement therapy. This is the first reported
case of Crohn's disease with hypothyroidism in a pediatric patient.
