Abstract
We present a coherent approach to the competition between thermodynami c states in spatially inhomogeneous systems, such as the Edwards-Ander son spin glass with a fixed coupling realization. This approach, model ed on chaotic dynamical systems, leads to a classification of the allo wable structures for replicas and their overlaps.
