Abstract
The stability of the A-type antiferromagnetic order and canted magneti c structure of LaMnO3 perovskite is explained in the itinerant-electro n picture based on the local-spin-density approximation. We demonstrat e the crucial role of the observed lattice distortion which strongly a ffects the magnetocrystalline anisotropy, as well as the anisotropic a nd isotropic exchange interactions in this compound.
