Abstract
In this paper we present a theory for the oscillatory interlayer magne tic coupling in ferromagnet/metal(or insulator)/ferromagnet sandwich s tructures and layered magnetic superlattices. We propose a theoretical model for a sandwich magnetic structure and calculate the total spin in the ground state of the model Hamiltonian exactly. The result shows that the effective interlayer magnetic coupling between magnetic laye rs oscillates from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic with a two-monol ayer period in the interlayer.
