The S-1-S-0 fluorescence excitation and dispersed fluorescence spectra
of jet-cooled tropolone-(H2O)(n) (n = 1-3) have been measured to inve
stigate the effects of the solvation by water on proton tunneling. Thr
ee intermolecular vibrational modes have been observed in the disperse
d fluorescence spectrum, Ab initio calculations suggest that two stabl
e conformers exist for tropolone-(H2O)(1). The structure of tropolone-
(H2O)(1) has been discussed by comparing the observed and calculated v
ibrational frequencies.
