Ac. Ericson et S. Posner, RELATIVE ABSORBENCY AND REFLECTANCE MEASUREMENTS OF DYE SOLUTIONS ANDDYED FABRICS, Textile chemist and colorist, 28(6), 1996, pp. 23-27
The aim of this work was to investigate how fiber optical sensors can
be used to detect color deviations in textile dyeing. The absorbance w
as measured in dyebaths containing different mixtures of dye component
s by means of fiber optical sensors. Test fabrics were dyed in these d
yebaths and measured by a reflectance technique. The absorbance measur
ements on the dyebaths were correlated with the corresponding K/S Valu
es and Delta E values for the fabrics. A method was developed for obta
ining a useful correlation between the absorbance spectra and the K/S
values. The measurements proved that it is possible to measure the abs
orbance of different dyebaths such as reactive and indigosol. Some rea
ctive dye colors, though, were more difficult to measure than others.
The experiments also verified that absorbance measurements on dyebaths
could be reproduced.
