Any discussion of antidepressants and their ability to inhibit monoami ne uptake necessarily embodies an abundant literature, especially when focused on potential alterations in the function of either serotonerg ic or noradrenergic systems. However, with due respect to the multitud e of studies published during the last 30 years, the present review co ncentrates on recent microdialysis observations in rats and the rather swift transfer of preclinical information to the clinic for hypothesi s testing.
