A. Geisslinger et al., MAPPING OF VOLCANIC APRON AND THE UPPER CRUST BETWEEN GRAN-CANARIA AND TENERIFE (CANARY-ISLANDS) WITH SEISMIC-REFLECTION PROFILING, Geo-marine letters, 16(2), 1996, pp. 57-64
During the Volcanic Island Clastic Apron Project (VICAP), south of the
Canary Islands, a total of 700 line-km multichannel seismic profiles
were acquired. Two prominent reflectors (A and C) were observed altern
ately: A is the top of the volcanic apron. C, at a depth of about 5.8
s (two way traveltime twt), can be correlated to reflector R7, a marke
r dated mid-Miocene (16 Ma) at the DSDP site 397. The deepest reflecti
on (E) in the basin was observed at 8 s (twt), which is an atypical oc
eanic basement.
