A novel dynamic model describing the transfer of mass, momentum, and e
nergy has been developed for a continuous Kamyr digester. The model ha
s been developed to improve the understanding of the process, in parti
cular the complex interactions between the vertical motion of the mass
and the chemical reactions. An interesting property of the model is i
ts potential ability to predict pulp quality based on the manipulated
variables that are used in real plant operation. Hence, it might be us
ed for predictive simulation to aid process operators. The model has b
een verified by simulating operating conditions of an industrial Kamyr
digester.
