The surface tensions and the contact angles of solutions of 4 differen
t industrial surfactants were determined in order to characterise the
adsorption at the air/solution and the solution/solid interface of bot
h the individual surfactants and their mixtures. By using a generalise
d adsorption isotherm the mutual interaction in the surfactant mixture
s was quantified. This procedure enables the surfactant interaction at
the interface to be optimised. By investigating the adsorption behavi
our at a hydrophobic solid interface and characterising the cleaning e
fficiency of the surfactant mixtures it was shown that mixtures of str
ong mutual surfactant interaction will meet different application dema
nds.
