Abstract
We have calculated the electronic structures and the relative stabilit ies of Ag3Mg, assuming the L1(2), DO22, and DO23 structures. We provid e strong evidence that the formation of the DO23 structure in particul ar, and other long-period superlattices in general around the 3:1 stoi chiometry, is driven by the topology of the Fermi surface.
