Within the scope of a field study the feeding oi 116 warm blooded wean
ling foals in 38 breeding farms has been examined during the second ha
ll of their first year of life. Approximately one hall for the farms r
evealed a clear surplus concerning the providing oi the foals with dig
estible energy, one third was within recommendations. A lack or a surp
lus of digestible protein was found respectively in approximately one
third of the foals rations. A clear surplus of calcium, phosphorus and
magnesium could be traced in approximately 75% of the farms, a lack c
ould be slated in about 5% to 8%. Massive overproviding of potassium w
as found for all foals, in 35% of the farms the providing with sodium
was insufficient. The content of iron and manganese in the rations sho
wed a clear surplus. Deficiencies of copper and zinc were estimated in
approximately one third of the farms.
