B. Lindqvist et H. Mornstad, EFFECTS OF REMOVING AMALGAM FILLINGS FROM PATIENTS WITH DISEASES AFFECTING THE IMMUNE-SYSTEM, Medical science research, 24(5), 1996, pp. 355-356
53 patients with complaints which they attributed to their amalgam fil
lings, and with pathological tests indicating abnormality of the immun
e system, were followed for 1-3 years after the removal of all, part o
f, or none of their amalgam fillings. Within the group of 34 individua
ls who had all their amalgam fillings replaced, there was a significan
t number of decreased antibody titres, but only two had normalised the
ir laboratory tests after 1-3 years. A significant improvement in subj
ective symptoms occurred in 20 (59%) of cases. In the group of patient
s who still had amalgam fillings, there were no statistically signific
ant changes in the antibody titres. It thus seems that mercury release
d from amalgam fillings may initiate or support an ongoing immune dise
ase. However. this study group was rather heterogeneous, and had recei
ved various pharmacological treatments. Further studies, are, therefor
e, needed to confirm, or refute, the results.
