Jr. Bellah et Pe. Ginn, GASTRIC LEIOMYOSARCOMA ASSOCIATED WITH HYPOGLYCEMIA IN A DOG, The Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 32(4), 1996, pp. 283-286
Hypoglycemia associated with a large, gastric leiomyosarcoma was diagn
osed in an 11-year-old, yellow Labrador retriever. The dog had persist
ent hypoglycemia and low serum insulin levels. Although radiological a
nd ultrasonographical evaluations suggested an abdominal mass involvin
g the liver, a large, nonresectable, gastric mass was found during exp
loratory laparotomy, Metastasis was not identified on gross inspection
of the liver or abdomen, and no metastatic lesions were seen on thora
cic radiographs, The dog was euthanized. Histopathological examination
of the mass revealed a poorly differentiated, gastric leiomyosarcoma
that extended into the mesentery without regional lymph-node involveme
nt.
