The paper describes a method for the O,O-dimethyl-N,N-bis (beta-cyanoe
thyl) amino-methanophosphonate preparation, following the Kabachnik-Fi
elds type reaction between: dimethylphosphite, formaldehyde and N,N-bi
s (beta-cyanoethyl) amine. In the optimum management of a synthesis pr
ocess it is essential to inhibit the secondary, dimethylphosphite hydr
olysis reaction, by avoiding the water presence in the reacting system
during the dialkyphosphite addition. Thus we proceeded to the methano
l esterification of the methylhydroxylamine resulting from the N,N-bis
(beta-cyanoethyl) amine and formaldehyde reaction.
