M. Certik et al., EFFECT OF CARBON AND NITROGEN-SOURCES ON GROWTH, LIPID PRODUCTION ANDFATTY-ACID COMPOSITION OF MUCOR-MUCEDO F-1384, Microbios, 74(298), 1993, pp. 7-15
The influence of twelve individual carbon sources and six nitrogen com
pounds on growth, lipid content and fatty acid composition of Mucor mu
cedo F-1384 was investigated. The best growth was observed on maltose
and the yield of lipid production decreased in the order: maltose > st
arch hydrolysate > glucose > glycerol > xylose > ethanol > starch > su
crose > fructose > lactose > methanol > galactose. It seems that subst
rates containing organic nitrogen are more beneficial for growth compa
red with inorganic N-sources. Fatty acid analysis showed preferential
accumulation of oleic and linoleic acid despite the N and C sources us
ed. On the other hand the nature of the substrates affected in particu
lar the content of gamma-linolenic acid.
