As part of an ongoing project aiming to evaluate the suitability of al
uminide overlay coatings to protect wet-seal areas of bipolar plates i
n Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell (MCFC) plants, this work illustrates the
preliminary results obtained in evaluating the hat corrosion resistanc
e of recently-developed Fe aluminide alloys in Lilt carbonate melts un
der both oxidizing and reducing MCFC gas conditions. By means of out-o
f-cell tests it has been found that Fe aluminides with similar to 25 w
t % Al possess long term corrosion resistance to carbonate melts expec
ially in the oxidant environment.
