Abstract
Eight cerebrosides, S-1-3 (1), S-1-4 (2), S-1-5 (3), S-2a-3 (4), S-2a- 11 (5), S-2b-2 (6), S-2b-4 (7) and S-2b-16 (8), were isolated from the three cerebroside molecular species S-1, S-2a and S-2b obtained from the less polar fraction of the chloroform/methanol extract of the star fish Stellaster equestris. The structures of these cerebrosides were d etermined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence. Compoun ds 4-8 are, to the authors' knowledge, new cerebrosides.
