The purpose of this work is to give a numerical method of solving the
Odar and Hamilton equation for various asymptotic particle Reynolds nu
mbers thanks to an improved treatment of the non-linearities. The meth
od is validated of the motion of a particle, initially at rest, accele
rated, under the effects of bulk forces. For smaller asymptotic partic
le Reynolds numbers, the numerical solution tends to the exact solutio
n of the Basset-Boussinesq-Oseen. We therefore show evidence of the in
fluence of the memory term. For asymptotic particle Reynolds number gr
eater than unity, the method is compared to a more straightforward sol
ution and to recent experimental results.
