Abstract
The lecture first discusses what is the essence of chemical engineerin g and the impact of new concepts and new attitudes arising from develo pments in ''chemical engineering science'' and ''process systems engin eering''. It then considers the implications for the structure and con tent of a modem university degree course in chemical engineering.
