The surface of a turbostratic BN powder has been characterized by FT-I
R spectrometry. BOH, BNH2, and B2NH species revealing a hydrolyzed sur
face are identified and the activity of the surface is evidenced by di
ethyl ether dissociation and acetonitrile polymerization. Other change
s in BN surface spectrum by probe-molecule addition are also proposed
to be due to an intercalation process.
