Vaginal cancer is rare and its treatment is morbid. Because vaginal in
traepithelial neoplasia and vaginal cancer have low incidences, extens
ive screening in the general population is probably not warranted. How
ever, the vagina should be inspected in all women when a Pap smear is
performed. Women who were exposed to diethylstilbestrol in utero requi
re more extensive and frequent screening measures (colposcopy). Chemop
revention of these lesions with retinoids may one day be feasible.
