M. Wenzel et al., FUNCTIONS OF JUSTICE NOTIONS AND JUSTICE RHETORICS WITH RESPECT TO DEVELOPMENT, COURSE, AND MANAGEMENT OF CONFLICTS, Zeitschrift fur Sozialpsychologie, 27(2), 1996, pp. 137-147
In the present article, from the perspective of justice theory, we ana
lyse (in-)justice experiences as well as reliance on justice arguments
and rhetorics, with respect to their roles in the development, the co
urse, and the management of conflicts. More specifically, four differe
nt functions of(in-)justice, for social conflicts, will be discussed:
(1) trigger function: experiences of injustice trigger social conflict
s; (2) arguing function: rhetorics of (in-)justice serve to support on
e's own position; (3) resolution function: with the aid ofjustice prin
ciples, possibilities to resolve the conflict are generated; (4) accep
tance function: labelling conflict resolutions as just increases accep
tance.
