Abstract
Autonomic dysfunction is a common complication of peripheral neuropath ies. It is often of little clinical importance, but some conditions ma y cause profound disturbance of autonomic function. These conditions i nclude acute dysautonomia, diabetes, primary and familial amyloidosis, Guillain-Barre syndrome, porphyria, and some inherited neuropathies. A wide range of neuropathies are associated with lesser degrees of aut onomic dysfunction. These include hereditary neuropathies, and neuropa thies associated with metabolic disturbances, alcohol abuse, malignanc y, medications, infections, and connective tissue disorders.
