During the Neogene time, a foreland basin is developped in the south o
f Marrakech along the Haut Atlas range. The compressive tectonic activ
ity along the margin is the factor governing the sequential arrangemen
t of deposits. The sedimentary deposition is related to the Atlasic te
ctonics, which remobilize the Hercynian fault pattern. Two compressive
phases are characterized. A post-Eocene phase initializes several com
partments and various small basins. The Mio-Pliocene phase increases t
he differential subsidence of these basins. Alluvial systems developpe
d into basins, in which deposit sequences suggest a tectonically diffe
rential synsedimentary control.
