C. Jaksland et R. Gani, AN INTEGREATED APPROACH TO PROCESS PRODUCT DESIGN AND SYNTHESIS BASEDON PROPERTIES-PROCESS RELATIONSHIP/, Computers & chemical engineering, 20, 1996, pp. 151-156
A combined methodology employing appropriate physico-chemical properti
es' estimation methods, the process synthesis algorithm of Jaksland et
al. (1995a) and the product design algorithm of Constantinou et al. (
1995) is presented. The new methodology addresses the question of inte
gration of design and control in the early stages of process design by
establishing relationships between physico-chemical properties, proce
ss design and process control. In each case, a common set of propertie
s and variables that promote the integration, are identified. The impo
rtant features of the new methodology are: properties are classified w
ith respect to process synthesis, product/process design and control;
identified relationships between properties, process synthesis, proces
s/product design and control are exploited; and finally, an analysis/v
alidation step is employed to screen/confirm the generated alternative
s. Two examples of application of the methodology are also presented.
