Abstract
One of the areas within JOULE is Rational Use of Energy in Industry wh ich includes activities in CAFE (Computer Aided Process Engineering) f or the energy intensive process industries. This paper describes a num ber of CAFE projects within JOULE, including energy synthesis, novel p rocesses, exploratory studies and environmentally reinforced processes . Energy and environmental benefits arising out of theses projects are in some cases quantified.
