Abstract
Treatment of canine acral lick dermatitis (ALD) represents a challenge for veterinarians. Our retrospective open label clinical study summar izes detailed follow up data on 10 cases of ALD treated with clomipram ine (2 mg/kg, once daily, orally). Clomipramine therapy led to reduced self-licking and caused significant healing of ALD lesions in 8 of 10 cases. Aside from transident lethargy and polydipsia, no other side e ffects were reported. On the basis of these clinical experiences it ap pears that clomipramine is an effective treatment for true (psychogeni c) ALD.
