Vo. Delatabla et al., STAPHYLOCOCCUS-LUGDUNENSIS AS A CAUSE OF ABSCESSES IN THE PERINEAL AREA, European journal of clinical microbiology & infectious diseases, 15(5), 1996, pp. 405-407
The first two patients with skin infections in the perineal area due t
o Staphylococcus lugdunensis are described. One had an abscess of the
Bartholin gland, and the other presented with Several cutaneous absces
ses in the pubic area, which had a prolonged and recurrent clinical co
urse despite appropriate antibiotic treatment. This report emphasizes
the pathogenic role of Staphylococcus lugdunensis and the importance o
f identifying coagulase-negative staphylococci to species level in som
e instances.
