Heating Ru-3(mu-dppm)(CO)(9)(PPh(3)) (2) for 90 min in refluxing tolue
ne resulted in the formation of Ph)(mu(4)-PPh(2)C(6)H(4)CO)(mu-PPh(2)C
H(2))(CO)(8) (3) and Ph(C6H4)}(mu-PPh(2)CH(2))(mu-PPh(2))(mu-CO)(CO)(6
) (4) as the major products (41%); other complexes identified were Ru-
3{mu(3)-PPhCH(2)PPh(C6H4)}(CO)(9) (5) and Ru-2(mu-PPhC(6)H(4)PPhCH(2))
(CO)(6-n)(PPh(3))(n) [n = 1(6), O(7)]. The transformations involve oxi
dative addition of aromatic C-H and P-C bonds to the cluster, eliminat
ion of benzene and carbonylation of the aryl-Ru bond, as well as clust
er disproportionation. X-ray structures of 3, 4 and 6 are presented.
