Thienylmercury(II) polypyrazolylborates (Tp = hydridotris-(3,5-dimeth
ylpyrazol-1-yl)borato, Tp(Me) = hydridotris(3-methylpyrazol-1-yl)borat
o, pzTp = tetrakis(pyrazol-1-yl)borato) have been synthesised and char
acterised through elemental analysis, electrical conductivity, molecul
ar weights, and spectral measurements (IR in the solid state and H-1,
C-13, Hg-199 NMR in solution), The structure of [(5-Me)Thien-2-yl]Hg-(
mu-Pz)(2)B(Pz)(2) has been determined (Pbcn; a = 22.530(6), b = 9.366(
4), c = 19.310(5) Angstrom; Z = 8; R = 0.054). The mercury(II) atom is
tricoordinated in an approximately planar 'T-shaped' configuration.
