Abstract
By using an amplification-create restriction site method, the precore TAG mutant of hepatitis B virus was detected in 6 (75%) of 8 acute ful minant hepatitis B patients, 7 (58%) of 12 acute self-limiting hepatit is B patients, 35 (81%) of 43 hepatitis B virus surface antigen carrie rs with fulminant hepatitis, and 42 (70%) of 60 hepatitis B virus surf ace antigen carriers with chronic hepatitis, The precore TAG mutant pr evails in acute and chronic hepatitis B of various severity in this ar ea where hepatitis B is endemic.
