Species correction factors for resistance- and capacitance-type moistu
re meters were determined for dahurian larch (Larix dahurica) from the
Russian Far East. The correction factors for the Wagner L-600 series
of capacitance-type moisture meters range from 0.1 percent at 6 percen
t moisture content (MC) to -2.9 percent at 22 percent MC. The correcti
on factors for most resistance-type moisture meters range from -0.3 to
0.9 percent over the same moisture range. In practice, using a -1 per
cent correction factor for the capacitance-type meter and no correctio
n factor for the resistance-type meter would be adequate for properly
kiln-dried lumber in the 10 to 15 percent average MC range.
