Nl. Gangadhar et T. Gopal, SEROMONITORING OF ANTIBODIES IN DOGS BY INDIRECT ELISA FOLLOWING POST-BITE RABIES VACCINATION, Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 66(6), 1996, pp. 531-534
An indirect ELISA was standardized with human diploid cell vaccine who
le virus as the antigen and seromonitoring of 149 dogs which had recei
ved post-bite vaccination for rabies was carried out. Serological resp
onse against two cell culture vaccines and one Semple's vaccine was as
sayed. The optical density (OD) values recorded for the 3 vaccines fel
l more or less in the same range. However, the cell culture vaccines i
ndicated significantly high OD values statistically. No post-vaccinati
on reaction was observed in any of the vaccinated dogs either with Sem
ple's or cell culture vaccine. The study revealed the utility of ELISA
as a tool for seromonitoring of rabies antibodies and nerve tissue ra
bies vaccine as an economic alternative where post-bite cell culture r
abies vaccination is not practicable.
