Large groups of microtubules are observed to undergo coherent oscillat
ions in length. This process is suspected to be important to the mecha
nism of cell division. We propose a model, related to the bounded-unbo
unded transition of microtubules proposed by M. Dogterom and S. Leible
r [Phys. Rev. Lett. 70, 1347 (1993)], which is in good agreement with
experiments.
