Abstract
An analysis was made of C-banding chromosomes of the following syrphid species (Diptera): Eristalinus aeneus (cop.), Eristalis arbustorum (L .), Eristalis tenax (L.) and Myiatropa florea (L.). The results indica te that the karyotypes of E. aeneus and E. tenax have 2n=12, E. arbust orum 2n=12+10 microchromosomes and those of M. florea 2n=10 chromosome s. The examined karyotypes show only pericentromeric position of the c onstitutive heterochromatine. E. arbustorum and E. tenax have much lar ger C-positive blocks than E. aeneus and M. florea. In E. aeneus the s econd pair of autosomes is heteromorphic and the fourth one is wholly euchromatic. In the sex chromososomes the C-positive segment has X whi le Y is always euchromatic.
