X-RAY-INDUCED CHANGES IN CERTAIN BLOOD PARAMETERS OF WHITE-LEGHORN CHICKS OF 2 DIFFERENT AGES

Whole body of White Leghorn chicks of two different age groups was irr adiated with X-rays at a 500r (single) dose. Different blood parameter s such as blood plasma protein (BP), blood glucose (BG), blood cholest erol (BC), haemoglobin (Hb), total red blood cell(RBC) and white blood cell (WBC) counts, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR),packed cell v olume (PCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular volu me (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and differ ential leucocytes count were considered. In most cases X-rays exerted depressive effects causing inhibition of various synthetic activities but in some cases there was a differential sensitivity rewards radiati on in the two different age groups of birds.
