Abstract
Metallic artificial index gratings are composed of metallic subwavelen gth structures and show high diffraction efficiency. In this publicati on a trade-off between different design parameters is carried out. The discussion is based on an approximate model and numerical results obt ained by applying optimization techniques to the rigorous diffraction theory.
