Abstract
Deviating from the molecular shape of rod-like ''classical'' liquid cr ystalline compounds we synthesized substances of the general formula [ GRAPHICS] All compounds exhibit nematic behaviour. The chemical struct ure of the linkage between the lateral aliphatic chain and the basic m esogen is of influence on the clearing behaviour. By microscopic and D SC investigations the phase transitions were studied.
