Abstract
New liquid crystal compounds, hyl)-1,3-dioxolan-2-yl]phenyl-4-n-alkoxy benzoates, I, and yl)-1,3-dioxoian-2-yl]phenyl-4-n-alkoxycinnamates, I I, have been synthesized and the thermotropic liquid-crystalline behav iour investigated. The compounds did not exhibit a chiral smectic C ph ase. The mesophases present in these compounds are cholesteric and sme ctic A phases. The transition temperatures of series II are higher tha n those for series I.
