Xs. Yi et al., THE MODULUS OF SHEAR-INDUCED FIBERS FROM A THERMOTROPIC LIQUID-CRYSTALLINE POLYMER IN A THERMOPLASTIC MATRIX, Polymer composites, 17(3), 1996, pp. 423-429
A morphologlcal study was performed to determine the volume fraction a
nd the aspect ratio of shear-induced fibers from a thermotropic liquid
crystalline polymer (LCP) in a polycarbonate (PC) matrix. A set of mi
cromechanical models was then applied to estimate the elastic modulus
of LCP fibers (E(j)) in a LCP(20 wt%)/PC blend. The dependence of the
composite modulus (E(t)) of the blend on sample dimensions was predict
ed. The effects of different injection molding conditions on fiber asp
ect ratio, E(t) and E(j), were examined.
