Ty. Suzuki et al., MEASUREMENTS OF CROSS-SECTIONS AND OSCILLATOR-STRENGTHS BY ELECTRON-IMPACT FOR THE 5D AND 7S LEVELS OF XE, Physical review. A, 53(6), 1996, pp. 4138-4144
Differential cross sections and generalized oscillator strengths have
been measured for two optically allowed transitions 5p(6)(S-1(0)) -->
5p(5)(P-2(3/2))5d(K = 3/2, J = 1) and 5p(6)(S-1(0)) --> 5p(5)(P-2(3/2)
)7s(K=3/2, J=1) and two optically forbidden transitions 5p(6)(S-1(0))-
->5p(5)(P-2(3/2))5d(K = 7/2,J = 3) and 5p(6)(S-1(0)) --> 5p(5)(P-2(3/2
))5d(K = 5/2, J = 3) in Xe by means of electron-energy-loss spectrosco
py. These measurements are carried out for electron kinetic energies o
f 400 and 500 eV at small scattering angles (theta=1.4 degrees-15.1 de
grees). Optical oscillator strengths have been determined by extrapola
ting the generalized oscillator strengths to zero momentum transfer, a
s (0.298 +/-0.045) and (0.0738+/-0.011), for the 5p(5)(P-2(3/2))5d(K =
3/2,J = 1) and 5p(5)(P-2(3/2))7s(K = 3/2, J = 1 states, spectively. I
ntegrated cross sections have also been determined for each impact ene
rgy. The errors are estimated to be less than 15%.
