Abstract
We propose an experimental scheme to probe the relative global phase o f two condensates and thus demonstrate the spontaneous symmetry breaki ng of global gauge invariance id Bose-Einstein condensation. A positiv e measurement would justify the standard view of the condensate wave f unction as a coherent state when there are interparticle interactions.
