Abstract
The influence of the normal group-velocity dispersion on anisotropic s elf-focusing beams in nonlinear Kerr media is studied analytically. It is shown that a light pulse self-focusing in the presence of normal d ispersion is split up into several small-scale cells preventing a cata strophic collapse. The theoretical explanation of this splitting proce ss is revealed.
