Abstract
We introduce a general strategy for preparation of arbitrary quantum s tates via optimal control of repeated conditional measurements. The ef fectiveness of this strategy in generating finite Fock-state superposi tions with a high level of confidence from experimentally accessible c oherent states is demonstrated for the simple and well known Jaynes-Cu mmings model dynamics.
