A study of the accuracy and statistical characteristics of the gelatin
pendulum current meter in comparison with three types of conventional
current meters was carried out under realistic field conditions. The
statistical analysis of the data shows that current speeds obtained wi
th pendulums are quite accurate with low scatter levels (rms = 0.6 cm
. s(-1)). Also average pendulum directions were found to be accurate b
ut to suffer from relatively large scatter levels (rms = 11 deg).
