J. Rodhe et N. Holt, OBSERVATIONS OF THE TRANSPORT OF SUSPENDED MATTER INTO THE SKAGERRAK ALONG THE WESTERN AND NORTHERN COAST OF JUTLAND, Journal of sea research, 35(1-3), 1996, pp. 91-98
The transport of fine suspended matter (SPM) at a number of stations a
rranged along three sections along the northwestern coast of jutland i
s investigated by means of repeated simultaneous observations of SPM a
nd velocity with high horizontal and vertical resolution. The amount o
f SPM transported into the Skagerrak with the inflowing water agrees w
ell with earlier estimates of deposits in the area. Most of the SPM or
iginates from the central and northern parts of the North Sea. Only ab
out one fourth of the SPM entering the Skagerrak originates from the s
outheastern North Sea. The observations indicate a settling of SPM thr
ough the deep water which can account for the high deposition rates ob
served in the eastern part of the Skagerrak.
